Problems viewing content from Google Drive on eClass
Last modified on 04 July 2023 02:09 PM

Instructors can share or embed videos, documents, and forms from their UAlberta Google Drive through their eClass courses. This article will explain how to view UAlberta Google Drive content on eClass when it does not display properly or appears blank.

The Google authentication method means that when accessing content from Google Drive on eClass, you need to sign into the UAlberta Google Apps (mail/drive) using the same browser with your CCID. If users do not log onto Google apps with their CCID, then the content will not display and videos embedded from Google Drive will not play.

If you run into Google Drive content issues, the first troubleshooting step is to follow this quick check to ensure you are using the correct Google account and see if that loads the content:

1. The top navigation drop-down of your eClass contains a navigation link directly to your University of Alberta Gmail. Clicking on the "Email" link will open a new tab and sign you in to your UAlberta Gmail account.

2. Go back to the eClass page that has the Google Drive content, and refresh the page. The content should now display correctly.

Note: Some files added to courses using the new Google file embedding mechanism will display different (and varied) error messages, ranging from unauthorized, an alert that too many views have occurred on the file, or a generic indication that 'something went wrong'. These issues result from exceeding the access limits on the file and should be reported to course instructors.
