This article outlines how U of A instructors can convert exams authored in MS Word files into quizzes in Canvas using the Exam Digitizer. This custom-built question creation helper tool is web-based tool that functions on Mac or PC. This tool is being released as an open beta in late 2025 (for Canvas), to assist any instructors. Any functional issues encountered should be reported to eclass@ualberta.ca.

U of A instructors can access the tool from any modern browser where they can upload files that will then be converted into an xml format (QTI) that is compatible for import into Canvas. The format can create the following question types: multiple choice (including images), essay, and true/false questions.
