With spring 2026 finally arriving, a number of new features are being launched within Canvas and across the Digital Learning Environment.

New features in Canvas

• The Google Gemini LTI integration is now available.
• The SensusAccess accessibility toolkit has been expanded to include content in Group Forums and Course Announcements.
• DLE Developers have completed another round of improvements on the Exam Digitizer, a tool that can convert MS-word based exam questions

RESOLVED March 4th, 2026, 9:30AM: Instructure has released a hotfix that has repaired this problem. Students will no longer see the 'Access denied' error when reviewing completed quizzes that have 'Until' dates applied.

UPDATE March 4th, 2026, 8:00AM: Instructure is validating a solution but have advised that there is additional complexity since student permissions are involved. They have not been able to provide a timeline for the fix being released.

Attention Canvas Users,

Our vendor has announced two upcoming maintenance periods that are required to update all SCORM content and activities in Canvas. This work will be completed in two phases during the following time windows:

• February 4, 2026, from 8:00 PM to Midnight

• February 11, 2026, from 8:00 PM to Midnight

During these windows, Canvas SCORM will be unavailable. All other Canvas functionality is expected to remain fully operational.

Attention Canvas Users,

The U of A is currently experiencing degraded internet connectivity with many sites partially or completely inaccessible. Users who are already signed in to Canvas may be able to continue working but it is currently not possible to access the U of A single sign-on service.

Analysts are working to get services restored as soon as possible.
