Canvas has two options for weighting grades. Canvas can recalculate a grade out of 100 based on the weight of the marks assigned to each quiz, assignment and discussion. Canvas Assignments can be organized into groups, and these groups can be weighted. Whenever an instructor creates a quiz, assignment, or discussion in Canvas, it is automatically linked as an activity in the Assignments tab. Assignments can be added to assignment groups first by creating groups using the +Group link in Canvas: Assignments can be moved into groups by clicking and dragging the eight dots to the left of an assignment name, or by clicking the three dots to the right of the assignment name and selecting a location to move to: Once you have created assignment groups and added assignments to them, you start to weight the assignment groups.' To get started with weighting grades by Assignment groups, click on the three dots beside +Assignment, then click Assignment Groups Weight:
Assignment groups can be weighted by percentage. Percentages should add up to 100. Click the checkbox beside "Weight final grade based on assignment groups" and the list of assignment groups becomes available: Once you have set up the weights, each assignment group will display the group weight at the top left of the group: Note: Once assignment groups have been weighted, grades will display for students and instructors as both individual grades and by the weight of each assignment group.
