UPDATED: Canvas-STACK Integration Performance Issues
Posted by Dave Laurie on 18 September 2025 11:24 AM

UPDATE Sept 23, 1:00PM: The vendor identified an infrastructure bottleneck last night and made further changes to the environment to correct the issue. The service has not experienced continued degradation so far today and the vendor is continuing to monitor for further problems.

UPDATE Sept 22, 2:00PM: Some users have continued to encounter problems over the weekend. The vendor is still actively working on this problem and exploring a number of different causes and solutions. Please be patient while they work on a full resolution. Instructors or students who do encounter poor performance when accessing assignments, can try to give the page a few minutes to load and/or try again after a short delay.

UPDATE Sept 19, 3:00PM: The vendor has made further changes to the STACK infrastructure before the weekend and assessments are now loading. Users may still encounter degraded performance depending on the overall load on the site. For students who do encounter degraded performance, we advise proceeding slowly and patiently, especially in quizzes embedded within Canvas assignment pages as these may appear to be not functioning but are in fact loading slowly. Re-clicking the ‘Start’ or ‘Continue Attempt’ buttons do not help as the page requires time to fully load. Once attempts are successfully launched, performance generally improves.

UPDATE Sept 18, 9:00PM: The vendor has made infrastructure changes so that the site is responsive but there are still problems running STACK assessments. Students and instructors may encounter error messages or slow load times trying to launch, preview, or edit quizzes. The vendor is continuing to investigate.

Attention Canvas Users,

The Canvas-STACK integration service used in some math, physics, and engineering courses is currently experiencing intermittent performance issues. These problems began occurring on September 17th and have been reported to the vendor who is now investigating.

Students trying to access their homework assignments may encounter slow page loads, blank pages, or error messages. These issues can sometimes be resolved by waiting a short while and re-trying.

Thank you for your patience while we work with the vendor to get these problems resolved.

Regards,
