High Contrast UI

The High Contrast UI in Canvas enhances the colour contrast of text, buttons, and other elements to make them easier to distinguish. Users can enable this tool via the toggle at the bottom of their user account details available from the top left of the global navigation menu:

Microsoft Immersive Reader

The built-in Microsoft Immersive Reader, enabled by default for all users in Canvas, launches a full screen overlay for any compatible content that provides a an enhanced reading view. Users will see large font text and can launch a voiceover that highlights text as it proceeds and can customize the reader to meet their reading style or language.

If the Immersive Reader is available for a particular piece of content, there will be an Immersive Reader button near the top right:

Launching the reader will display the content in full screen view. The voice over can be launched from the button at the bottom center, and all the customization options are available at the top right:

Additional Notes:

  • The Immersive reader currently functions with the following content types in Canvas: Pages, Course home pages, and Assignment descriptions
  • The Immersive Reader is not compatible with Files, Quizzes (both Classic and New), Discussions, content embedded via the RCE-editor, or any external tools.
  • The option to disable the Reader for individual users who do not want or require it for their account under Account > Settings > Feature options does not function at this time.
  • The Canvas Community has full documentation on the Immersive Reader
