UPDATED: Smart Exam Monitor Update for Fall 2020

Attention eClass Users,

Update September 24th: An additional release for SEM has added the option to add quiz passwords directly into SEM session settings to allow students to launch quizzes more easily in the Closed book full screen workflow. A number of other minor fixes and language changes were added.

eClass Session Timeout Change September 10th 2020

Attention eClass users,

Due to the issues with the eClass login service (SSO), we have increased the user session timeout to 4 hours. The login service experienced problems around 6:00 PM September 8th and 9th so this change should allow users who complete classes in the late afternoon to remain authenticated in eClass should the sign-in problems persist.

We recommend that any users trying to access eClass during the evening sign on before 6:00 PM to avoid any authentication issues.

Google File Embed Issue

Attention eClass Users,

We have confirmed that some students in classes with content delivered via the Google File Embed activity are encountering the following error when they try to access video files:

“Unable to play this video at this time. The number of allowed playbacks has been exceeded. Please try again later”

Our teams have contacted Google Support to have them diagnose this issue. While we work with Google towards a solution, we want to ensure that users who are impacted by this issue

Attention eClass users,


There will be a brief eClass outage on Wednesday September 2nd 2020 from 12:00AM (Midnight) until 1:00AM (MST). This outage is required by our hosting team to release a permanent infrastructure fix to address the performance issues impacting eClass today.


eClass and eClassLive will be unavailable throughout the maintenance window.

UPDATE: eClass Outage Alert Tuesday September 1st 2020

FINAL UPDATE: Our hosting team has identified the root cause of today's performance issues and will be implementing a permanent fix in a maintenance outage later tonight.

 

UPDATE - 3:40PM: Additional eClass users have reported intermittent access issues this afternoon. These issues should now also be resolved.

Zoom Updates for Fall 2020

Attention Zoom users,

For the start of the Fall 2020 term, we will be releasing some configuration changes to Zoom at the University of Alberta. Starting Monday August 31st, 2020 the following changes will be enabled in Zoom: 

  • Meeting Passcodes will be required when scheduling a meeting. This should not impact students accessing course meetings through eClass as meeting links in the integration will allow the user to join directly with 1-click access. This change is required because Zoom
