Adding The Library Resources Block

NOTICE: Please be advised that the content of this article may only be relevant for users concluding the final stages of course work on eClass or for users on the eClass External system. The eClass Learning Management System is currently in a read-only state that prohibits new courses, enrollments, and users from being added to the site. Credit courses and co-curricular courses at the UofA are now being delivered on Canvas, and full articles on how to use Canvas can be found here.

Working in conjunction with the Library, the eClass team has developed a customizable block to make it easy for students to access resources. The block is available on the user's homepage, and instructors can add it inside their course.

To add the Library block to your course:

  1. First, activate edit mode at the top-right corner of your course page. If the column of blocks on the right side of the page is hidden, click the left arrow icon to open the blocks drawer:

edit mode and block drawer toggle

  2. Then, find the Add a block button at the top of the right hand column. Find and select Library Resources Block

the location of the "add a block" button
menu options to add a block

  3. The page should now load with the Library Resources block.

  4. Once added to your page, this block has a customizable area where you have the option of adding links specific to your course or subject matter. The library block is most commonly added to courses after working with subject matter librarians and staff to provide resources specific to courses. It is common practice to enroll librarians directly into courses as designers so that they can develop the content for the block. It is also possible to give Librarians blanket access to all courses in a specific Faculty or Department to facilitate this process - please contact eClass support for more information about this.
