Accessing eClass Courses

NOTICE: Please be advised that the content of this article may only be relevant for users concluding the final stages of course work on eClass or for users on the eClass External system. The eClass Learning Management System is currently in a read-only state that prohibits new courses, enrollments, and users from being added to the site. Credit courses and co-curricular courses at the UofA are now being delivered on Canvas, and full articles on how to use Canvas can be found here.
Follow these steps when you are first attempting to access eClass:

Verify Internet Browser Compatibility Validate your system specs and browser setup to ensure you can use eClass effectively. Owing to a security incident with Canvas, access to eClass now requires staff and instructors to access eClass from a University of Alberta network address. On campus, staff may connect to a wired connection or to the eduroam wireless service. Off campus, staff must connect using the UofA Virtual Private Network Client (VPN): Access the University of Alberta VPN. Once you have a UofA network connection, click the 3-dot menu on the upper-right of the U of A home page. Then click eClass located under the Quick Links list. Alternatively, you can go directly to https://eclass.srv.ualberta.ca/portal.
On the eClass Portal, you can choose where to log in: either selecting 'University of Alberta Credit Courses' for courses from Bear Tracks, including the Faculty of Extension and Continuing Education courses; or External courses for community collaboration courses (your access instructions will specify if External courses should be selected - see here for more information.) You can check your browser for compatibility from the link on the right side, as well as links to access the eClass knowledge portal.
Next, enter your CCID (Campus Computing ID) and password in the campus SSO portal. Make sure that your CCID is the alphanumeric ID (maximum of 8 characters) derived from your name, entered using only lowercase letters. Do not use your email address or include '@ualberta.ca'.
After you log in, you will arrive at your course Dashboard. The Simple tab shows courses you currently have access to. The Upcoming tab allows students to see courses in which they are enrolled and when the course will be available.
