University of Alberta China Cloud Network Service

Article Last Updated July 2021

This article describes how students currently accessing University of Alberta learning resources from The People's Republic of China can improve their connectivity. To meet this need, IST Security and Privacy and Networking teams have developed the University of Alberta China Cloud Network Service.

Please see here for instructions on how to setup and use this service.

The following U of A services are accessible through the China Cloud Network Service:

  • G Suite for Education including gmail, google drive (docs, sheets, slides, forms), Meet, Chat
  • Bear Tracks
  • eClass
  • eClassLive
  • Zoom
  • ePoll
  • Smart Exam Monitor (SEM)
  • Stream2
  • Assign2

However please note that due to China's regulation of the Internet, the service is not able to provide full access to the Internet. The following websites are not available through this service:

  • YouTube
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Remote Proctor (RPNow)

Instructors who are delivering content using any of these blocked tools should consider providing an alternative format for students accessing from China.
